CSA FAQs

How much produce is delivered each week?

A vegetable share includes 7-10 items per week, and contains enough food to fill your average grocery bag at least 2/3 full. This amounts to plenty of food for a vegetable-loving couple or small family. Members can sign up to receive a box every week (full share) or every other week (half share), or can sign up to receive a total of six boxes over the whole season (we call this a “flex share“).

What kinds of vegetables do we get in our boxes?

The types of vegetables that you get each week will change depending on what is in season:

  • Spring: lettuce, arugula, spinach, baby kales, chard and collards, mustard greens, bok choi, radishes, turnips, peas, green onions…
  • Summer: beets, carrots, turnips, peas, beans, summer squash, green onions, cucumbers, kale, chard, collards, corn, herbs, mixed greens, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, mustard greens, cabbage, onions…
  • Fall: beets, carrots, turnips, rutabagas, chard, kale, collards, winter squash, potatoes, onions, leeks, cabbage, bok choi, lettuce, mustard greens, arugula, herbs, green onions, radishes, kohlrabi, and more.

Can we choose which vegetables we receive each week?

We fill each weeks’ box with a varied selection of seasonal vegetables, but we don’t pack boxes with individualized orders – everyone gets the same thing. However, if you would like to pick up your share at one of our market locations – either every week or just once in a while – we give you the option of trading out items from your CSA box for whatever we have at the market that week.

How do we know what to do with the vegetables?

CSA members receive a weekly newsletter along with their vegetable share. These updates include a list of the week’s produce, pictures, stories and news from the field, recipes, and cooking and preservation tips.

What if I can’t afford to pay the membership fee all at once?

We have a monthly payment plan available to our members. Members can split their payment into six parts, and pay either by check or electronically through our online store. We are in the process of setting up these payment options, so please be patient with us! We can also accept weekly LINK payments in Rogers Park. Please contact us to talk about the available options.

Do you have egg or meat shares available?

We do offer an egg share. You can sign up for egg shares at the same time that you sign up for a vegetable share. We will have turkeys available for purchase and delivery in November.

Would you consider adding another pick-up site in my neighborhood?

Maybe! If you would like to host a pick-up site, please send us an email at midnightsunfarm@gmail.com. We will decide if it will work for us based on your location and the amount of interest in the site (we’d want at least five customers per week).

What if I am out of town during one week?

Members can contact us if they have to miss a box delivery. For every-other-week members, it is easy to switch the delivery to an alternate week. For every-week members, other options may be available. Or, you can always have a friend pick up your share!

Can my family and I visit the farm?

Absolutely! We welcome visitors to the farm, and we even host a CSA member day in late summer during which all our CSA members can come to the farm, meet each other, and check out the fields. We do ask, however, that you contact us before making plans to come visit.

Are you looking for volunteers to come work on the farm?

If you are interested in coming to the farm to volunteer, please contact us.
